Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was born on the 6 May 1880 was a German expressionist painter and print maker. Kirchner was one of the founders of the artists group Die Bruke, who were one of the main groups leading to expressionism in 20th-century art. His work was branded then classed as "degenerate" in 1933 " by the Nazis. After this, in 1937 over 600 of his works were sold or destroyed. His work often conveys different emotions and issues, and often portrays naked woman. He uses bright colours and shapes within his work, usually in the background.
